Trollhunting: A Primer
Question! What is a Trollhunter?
The short, obvious answer is that it's someone who hunts trolls. That would be only partially true however.
Firstly, prior to Jim taking the role, all Trollhunters were... trolls. Secondly, a Trollhunter does not merely hunt trolls, but also all other threats to "good trolls" and humans. This includes goblins, pixies, gruesomes, and all sorts of other nasty creatures bent on murder and chaos. Originally the Trollhunter would act like the legendary knights of King Arthur, roaming the world in search of enemies and destroying them when they come, while still being on call to protect all the known caverns full of trolls.
The source of the Trollhunter's power is also the object that chooses them - the Amulet of Daylight, also known as Merlin's Amulet, among several other names. It is a mysterious round glowing amulet, about the size of a human hand, which features clock hands, a troll cameo, and mysterious writing around the edges that changes as needed. When opened up, the Amulet reveals six slots within which properly cut gemstones can be inserted and removed as needed.
Gemstones, when cut, reveal a core that contains a magical ability. The eyes of trolls also qualify as these stones and when cut, they render the user immune to certain of the original owner's abilities.
When a Trollhunter dies, as long as the amulet is intact and not in the hands of enemies, it will call to another person to take the place of the former master. The souls of the Trollhunters will then return to Trollmarket where they will exist in a pocket afterlife dimension for all eternity to try to guide and aid the next generation. Their bodies need to be reassembled for this to occur and their souls need to be intact and not consumed.
Trollhunting has been in existence for over 900 years prior to Jim obtaining the amulet. There are many such souls as a result. Most of them are assholes.
Unfortunately, without the use of a stone, it cannot render a troll immune to sunlight. Allegedly the amulet thinks for itself and is alive to an extent.

Abilities
- Daylight Armor.
This armor is made of pure sunlight and adds durability to its' wearer. It resizes itself to fit the human in question and when augmented with the eye of Gunmar can even manifest a helmet as needed. However it will vanish should the user's will to fight break or their energy be exhausted. As long as the amulet is active, this armor will remain on the person. Trying to remove the amulet when not the owner will result in a painful blast of power that can severely injure a regular person or troll.- Weapons
When the armor is manifested, the user also becomes able to manifest weapons. The Sword of Daylight, a powerful weapon that can kill trolls instantly if it successfully impales them, is the primary weapon. Others can be added with the use of stones.- Extra Strength
While the amulet is active, the user has enhanced strength and can withstand considerably higher weights and impacts.- Sunlight Burst
The amulet can emit a burst of light capable of temporarily blinding anything weak to sunlight.- Psychic Link
The Amulet can xense the wearer's emotions and is linked inexorably with them. As well as being able to return to them when called or if thrown away, it recognizes the user's emotions. If they are feeling threatened it will manifest the armor, if feeling safe it will remove it. It will also allow the user to psychically command their weapons to teleport to them, or their helmet to manifest.- Teleportation
The amulet can and will teleport if thrown away. It can also teleport the user's weapons around to a limited extent.- Translation
The wearer of the amulet can understand trolls and when used as a light source it will translate written troll languages.- Light Warning
Though Jim has yet to actually learn how to read it, the amulet will glow in the presence of danger or sometimes just in the presence of supernatural forces.- Temporal Protection
The wearer of the amulet is immune to most memory erasure due to time travel. However, the exception is if the timeline is erased by having halted the event before it can occur.- Eclipse
The armor has an alternate red and black version with the Eclipse Blade, a weapon that can kill the otherwise immortal Gunmar.- Opening/Closing Killahead Bridge
For unknown reasons the amulet is linked to the Killahead Bridge and can rebuild it, open it and close it as needed.- Gemstone Augmentation
Though they need to be cycled out, the stones can do such things as make multiples of their user, allow them to walk on walls, make them immune to sunlight or let them read minds. There are countless of these powers, almost none of which are ever used.- Other Armors
There are two more types of armor that cna be summoned with different incantations, Moonlight and Magitech. However Jim does not have access to these as they are from the future.
Unfortunately, without the use of a stone, it cannot render a troll immune to sunlight. Allegedly the amulet thinks for itself and is alive to an extent.
The Three Rules of Trollhunting
Rule #1. Always be afraid. Fear keeps you sharp, while confidence can get you killed far more easily. However, this rule is set aside when dealing with creatures that smell fear, such as goblins.
Rule #2. Always finish the fight. This is a Trollhunter rule but it is not one that Jim himself practices unless necessary. This rule means that any fight must be finished with the opponent dead. However, Jim has found this to be unnecessary and in fact detrimental in some cases. Some of his greatest allies have been those he's spared.
Rule #3. Always kick them in the gronk-nuks. When in doubt, crotchshots always work, even on trolls. A swift kick to the nuts solves a lot of problems.
